The original Marmox board is ideal for a whole suite of applications - probably why it's one of our most popular products! Marmox Multiboard is ideal for many applications and comes in a range of board sizes and thicknesses. You are currently viewing the 20mm thick board.
Multiboard is primarily used as a lightweight tile backer board. This ensures that tiles and coverings are safely and securely fixed in place. As well as internal use, it's also certified for external use. This means that it can be used as an external tile backer board and can also be used outside underneath a coating of render.Multiboard is also completely waterproof and can be used as a bonded waterproof assembly. The unique patented surface of Marmox Multiboard allows for heavier tiles to be installed, giving you freedom of choice. As it is completely impermeable to water, it is perfect in areas prone to moisture, making it a good waterproof tile backer board option for anyone looking to tile a bathroom or kitchen.
Another key benefit that this product provides is thermal insulation. Whilst the 6mm and even 4mm will provide a degree of heat retention, boards with thicknesses of 10mm and trap enough heat to be used as insulation boards. Being so lightweight, you can use Multiboards for insulation on walls, floors and ceilings and noticeable benefits can be seen in 10mm and 20mm Marmox boards.
Finally, Marmox Multiboards can also be used as decoupling membrane. This prevents your tiles and grout from cracking due to horizontal movement in your floor. You can also use it with underfloor heating wire, creating a thermally efficient decoupling layer for use with your underfloor heating system.
Always use a a C1 cement based adhesive for Marmox Multiboards for plastering and light or medium weight tiles. For heavier tiles like porcelain you should always use a flexible adhesive categorised as a C2. This is also true if you are using these boards externally, on floors, or in wet areas.
If you're using this underneath a carpet it's always advised to use a thin sheet of 10mm ply or a fibre reinforced flooring compound over the top before the carpet is laid down.
