Sandstone, travertine and limestone are naturally hard wearing stones, ideal for external use; however it is essential to protect your natural stone paving from UV damage, water based staining and general dirt to ensure the continued beauty and longevity of your paving. Green Garden Paving offers a wide range of high quality professional cleaning and sealing products to protect and enhance your natural stone whilst maintaining the unique characteristics of natural stone paving. Green Garden Paving sealants provide invisible protection, penetrating deep into the natural stone to reduce staining and loss of jointing sand whilst allowing the natural stone to 'breathe'. Beware of our competitor products that completely seal off the stone preventing it from perspiring, as this can lead to future complications with efflorescence or darkening of the stone as moisture builds up behind the seal. Once applied Green Garden Paving sealants do not require re-application and dry to a matt/low sheen, preserving the original look of the stone.
Follow the Green Garden Paving recommended Cleaning, Protection and Maintenance steps below to safeguard your external natural stone paving;.
Use HG Natural Stone Cement & Lime Remover to remove cement and grout residues created during the installation/building process and limescale from your natural stone paving. Suitable for use on sandstone, travertine and limestone as well as many other types of calcareous natural stone including marble and granite.
Note. To avoid leaving cement residues on your stone paving during the installation process, use a semi dry bed and Geo-Fix Jointing Compound to fix your paving.
One litre is enough for a floor surface area of 40 to 50 m2.
Note. It is best to test the product first in an inconspicuous area and allow to dry (1 week in dry summer weather, in winter it can take longer).
Remove any loose cement and lime scale as much as possible.
Wet the surface to be cleaned.
Dilute the HG Natural Stone Cement & Lime Remover 1:10 with lukewarm water.
Apply with a scrubbing brush and brush softly on the wet floor.
Note. the surface must stay damp during the treatment.
A once-only treatment which is left to penetrate for 5 minutes is sufficient.
Scrub thoroughly and rinse with clean water afterwards.
Use HG Marble And Stone Impregnator to protect natural stone floors, both internally and externally, against stains and stubborn marks. HG Impregnating Sealer is a durable liquid protector, which penetrates deep into the surface of the stone and completely seals off small pores, whilst reducing the size of larger pores. This means that liquid molecules can no longer be absorbed, whilst allowing the surface to 'breathe' and any dampness in the stone to evaporate. Suitable for use on sandstone, travertine and limestone.
HG Impregnating Sealer provides invisible protection; penetrating deep into the natural stone, it dries matt to preserve the natural appearance of the stone.
One litre is enough for a surface area of 8 to 10 m2.
Remove cement and grout residues using HG Natural Stone Cement & Lime Remover. After rinsing-off allow at least 3 days for the surface to dry.
Ensure the surface to be treated is perfectly clean, absolutely dry and rain should not be forecast for 48 hours (if the weather is likely to be inclement, store the stone undercover and apply the HG Impregnating Sealer before fixing and store in the dry for three days).
Test the product on an inconspicuous area first and allow to dry.
Apply HG Impregnating Sealer concentrate evenly using a brush, spray or non-fluff cloth.
Leave for a maximum of 5 minutes to penetrate.
After treatment the surface should retain a mat appearance. Any surplus resting on the surface (leaving a gloss finish) after this time must be removed with a cloth dampened with white spirit if necessary.
Allow 2 hours before applying a second or more coats.
Note. after approximately 4 hours the surface can be walked upon. Exterior stone or brick walls require no further treatment. Clean tools with white spirit.
Use HG Patio Cleaner, a highly concentrated cleaner, specifically designed for the cleaning of dirty and stained paving stones and concrete slabs.
Wet the patio and particularly the joints with water and brush away any puddles which form.
Pour HG Patio Cleaner into a bucket and add water (1 part HG Patio Cleaner to 4 parts water); using a yard broom or scrubbing brush spread the liquid and scrub.
Leave to work for a few minutes spreading more liquid as necessary to prevent drying out before rinsing off with plenty of water.
HG Green Slime Remover is recommended for cleaning off moss and green lichen crust.
If you are maintaining your stone correctly and it drains well you should not experience moss, mould or algal growth, however if you need to remove mould, algae, lichen or moss from patios, timber decking, paths, walls, roofs, fences and/or terracotta pots use HG Green Slime Remover. Moss, mould and algae can make surfaces slippery, so it is necessary to use these cleaners to restore and maintain the surface's slip resistance and safety.
Our moss, mould and algae removing cleaners penetrate deep into the surface, protecting it against re-growth for months at a time.
Dilute HG Green Slime Remover in a ratio of 1:20 (or a quarter of a bottle with half a bucket of water) with water and apply with a brush or yard broom.
Leave the product to do all the work for at least 36 hours.
After a few days the debris can be removed by hosing or brushing away.
Note. Do NOT use during wet weather or in conjunction with any synthetic detergents, as the product will become ineffective.
